Substantial Heating Savings for Large Family
Providing a new boiler replacement for 4 bedroom detached home, Leicester
Overview
The Limbert family, a couple with four children, bought their four-bedroom, detached, new-build home in Leicester in 2000. After 21 years of service, the home’s original gas boiler broke down, leaving the Limberts with a choice faced by many other homeowners these days: replace the boiler with another gas boiler or switch to an air source heat pump.
The Limberts wanted a solution that reduced their gas usage and saved money. After researching the options, Mr Limbert decided that a heat pump was not right for his home:
“I knew I would need bigger pipes to increase the flow rate and, ideally, underfloor heating or larger radiators if I wanted to have a heat pump. Also, I was quoted £12,000 to £15,000 for a heat pump installation.”
Mr Limbert, who had contacts in the heating trade, discovered Viessmann products and decided to opt for a modern high efficiency boiler, which would be more affordable and cause less disruption.
After consulting local Leicestershire-based Viessmann-trained installer, Britannic Heating, the Limberts had a Viessmann Vitodens 100-W 25 kW heat-only boiler, with magnetic filter, fitted.
Mr Limbert was attracted to the Viessmann boiler’s future-proof technology such as its ability to work with potential future mix of hydrogen and gas in the grid, as well as Viessmann’s reputation for reliability. The boiler has an energy efficiency of 94% and an ERP classification of A.
The Limbert’s Vitodens 100-W boiler has turned out to be as efficient as anticipated, with Mr Limbert saying, “it’s efficient, compact, quiet and affordable.”
“Not only have I saved a substantial amount of money, I have also drastically reduced our gas usage. Via my Drayton Wiser Smart thermostat and app, I can see that our gas consumption has fallen from 8,703 kWh between November 1st 2020 and February 25th 2021, to 6,469 kWh during the same period a year later, following the installation of our Viessmann Vitodens 100-W boiler. We are very happy!”
