One way we achieve this ambition is with our innovative Vitocal heat pump range and as more UK homes are changed from traditional gas boilers to heat pumps, our collaboration with OVO will lower your Vitocal heat pump running costs compared to your standard variable tariff (SVT).
Why Heat Pump Plus?
Heat Pump Plus is a complimentary add-on for OVO customers who own a Viessmann Vitocal 150-A or Vitocal 151-A air source heat pump in the UK. The initiative helps reduce the electricity costs associated with running your heat pump, making it a more economical choice for heating your home.
To qualify, your Viessmann heat pump must be connected to the ViCare App, which gives you complete control of your heating and hot water and ensures the energy used can be measured. With Heat Pump Plus, the cost to run your heat pump is reduced to 15p per kWh, compared to a standard variable tariff of 23p per kWh, potentially saving you up to one third* of the electricity costs to run your Vitocal heat pump.
How to Get Heat Pump Plus:
- Become an OVO customer: Heat Pump Plus is an exclusive add-on for OVO customers, so if you're not already a customer you can start by switching your electricity supply. Switch to OVO here to set up your account. Note that switching is subject to OVO’s eligibility criteria.
- Ensure Compatibility: Ensure you have the either a Vitocal 150-A or Vitocal 151-A air source heat pump connected to an active ViCare Account
- Install a Smart Meter: You must have a smart meter that sends readings every 30 minutes. If you don’t have a smart meter, OVO can install one for no extra cost.
Heat Pump Plus is available for new and existing Viessmann Vitocal 150-A / 151-A air source heat pump installations. If you already have one installed and your heat pump isn't connected to ViCare, you can download the free app and create an account.
How does Heat Pump Plus work?
Once you've added Heat Pump Plus to your tariff, all electricity used by your heat pump will initially be charged at your standard OVO rate. In the first week of each month, you will receive a credit based on how much of your total electricity usage in the previous month went into using your heat pump to heat your home (as calculated using smart meter data). These will be your Heat Pump Plus credits. The credit reflects the difference between your standard rate charge and the Heat Pump Plus rate which will mean that you will pay an effective rate of 15p per kWh** for the electricity your heat pump uses.

When you add Heat Pump Plus to your plan, your home energy rate will stay the same, but the energy consumed by your heat pump will be charged at an effective rate of 15p per kWh (thanks to payment of your Heat Pump Plus credit).The £229.20 saving is based on an air source heat pump with a UK average Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (or efficiency rating) of 2.8 and an annual consumption of 3,644 kWh with the Heat Pump Plus add-on compared to OVO's average SVT rate of 21.29p per kWh. Actual savings will vary depending on your heat pump usage, efficiency rating and the cost per kWh of your standard home energy tariff.
