Boiler & heating system replacement & installation guides
When you need a replacement heating system, you’ll want to make sure that you select the right solution for your property - and that the installation itself runs as smoothly as possible. Read our boiler replacement guide to help you make the right choices and ensure you know what to expect during this process.
When is the right time to replace my heating system?
Knowing when to arrange heating system replacement isn’t always easy, but there are a number of signs that suggest it’s time to make a change.
The occasional heating system breakdown may not warrant a replacement, but if your system needs to be repaired on a frequent basis, it could be time to get a new solution. Also, if your heating system is old and you find it difficult and expensive to source replacement parts for it, it’s worth considering making the switch to something new.
It may also make sense to get a replacement if your current heating system isn’t working as well as it used to, or if it no longer meets the needs of your household. In addition, you may benefit from getting a new solution if your current system is proving inefficient and therefore costly to run.
Which heating system is best for my home?
Deciding it’s time for heating replacement is one thing, but how do you know which system is right for your home? With so many solutions available, it pays to do your research - and you may wish to take expert advice to help you find a system that matches your priorities and the specific heating and hot water needs of your household.
As one of the leading international manufacturers of domestic heating and hot water products, we offer a full range of solutions. These include:
Gas condensing boilers
If your property is connected to the gas grid, a gas condensing boiler could be an excellent choice for you. All Viessmann gas condensing boilers harness the very latest in energy saving technology to help you lower your energy bills and make an active contribution towards protecting the environment.
We offer three main types of gas condensing boilers. These are combination or ‘combi’ boilers, system boilers and conventional or ‘open vent’ boilers.
Oil condensing boilers
Oil condensing boilers work in a very similar way to gas boilers, but are fed from an on-site external oil storage tank. They are a popular choice in homes that are not connected to the gas grid.
Combined heat and power systems
Designed to generate heat and electricity simultaneously, our combined heat and power systems are highly efficient and environmentally friendly. These units generate electricity while at the same time capturing the usable heat created during this process. They can help you to reduce your carbon emissions and your energy bills.
Ground source and air source heat pumps
Using advanced heat pump technology, our ground and air source heat pumps utilise the latent heat in the ground or outdoor air. These environmentally-friendly solutions can be used on a standalone basis or to supplement an existing heating system.
Solar thermal systems
Solar thermal systems allow you to take advantage of the free warmth provided by the sun to heat your domestic hot water. We offer a range of flat-plate and tube collector systems that are designed for seamless integration with our other heating solutions.
How long will it take to install a new heating system?
The length of time it takes to install your new heating system will depend on a range of factors, including the type of system you choose and how complex the fitting is likely to be. For example, if you’re replacing a boiler on a like-for-like basis in the same location in your home, the installation should take no longer than a day. However, if new pipework is required, you’re having your heating system power flushed or you’re changing the location of your boiler, you can expect fitting to take between one and three days.
If you’re having an entirely new type of system installed, installation is also likely to take longer. For instance, if you choose to have a heat pump system fitted, installation could take between three and five days.
Ask your heating engineer to provide you with a clear timescale for the work when you arrange the installation. This will ensure that you know what to expect.
How much will it cost to install my new heating system?
As well as paying for the heating system itself, you’ll need to make sure you budget for the installation. There are no set rules when it comes to costs, but generally speaking, the more complex and time consuming the process of installing your new heating is, the more you can expect to pay.
Also, having extra features added to your heating system, such as a new thermostat or new radiators, will make installation more expensive.
To ensure you’re getting a good deal on installation, you may wish to get quotes for this work from a number of heating engineers. Always make sure you choose an engineer with the appropriate skills and accreditation. For example, if you are having a gas boiler fitted, it’s essential that your engineer is Gas Safe registered.
